Actress and UNEP Goodwill Ambassador Becca Nice discussed her motivation to help with environmental justice. She talked about being raised in the Chicago area and seeing the burden that environmental pollution puts on vulnerable communities, as well as living in California and the rising levels of homelessness in Los Angeles that have become a national focus.

"I want to make it clear to any politians that might hear this... people who have been affected by the rising cost of housing and stagnant wages are never what makes us sick. It's the inaction of elected officials that does so. That's the true embarrassment," she said, to rousing applause.

Nice also spoke about her work towards sustainability, including a weekday vegetarian diet and cutting down on single-use plastic, but addressed how priviledge plays a part in those actions.

"It's easy for me to talk about "concious consumerism" from my position. We cannot deny that a backbone of America is overconsumption and people carry deeply embedded behaviors in that regard, so it's going to take a lot of education and motivation to change. Especially when so many socially conscious products are priced as luxury brands. Like with many injustices that we're finally addressing, the real change needs come from the top... billionares be damned."
